Adding a strain

You can add cultivars in two ways: search and import via StrainCompass, or enter details manually. Both options are located at the top right of the Strains page.

Find on StrainCompass

1. Click Find on StrainCompass and enter the strain name (for example, Blue Dream). Enter at least 2 letters, then click Search.
2. Locate the correct entry in the results. Breeder names appear beneath each cultivar to help differentiate identically named strains from multiple breeders. Type additional letters to narrow broad search results.
3. Click Add, then designate the catalog destination under Add it to:
   • I have seeds places the strain into the Seed Vault. Enter your seed count, type, date received and storage spot.
   • I want seeds adds the cultivar to your Wanted list.
   • Just for reference saves the profile under All strains for record-keeping.
4. Click Continue to review.

The Review Strain Info screen displays all imported data from StrainCompass: breeder, parental lineage, photoperiod type, flowering duration, cannabinoid ranges, terpene profiles and reported effects. Edit any field as needed. No data is written to your database until you click Save Strain, which opens the new profile.

If CannaDB is enabled under Settings → Integrations, BudMinder automatically supplements missing StrainCompass attributes using CannaDB records. When CannaDB includes packaging artwork, the review screen lets you adopt the image, upload your own file or select No image.

Tip: If a strain already exists in your library, BudMinder alerts you before creating a duplicate, offering shortcuts to view the profile or add seeds. Saving an existing cultivar from the same breeder updates its botanical specs while preserving your seed counts and storage notes.

Enter manually

For custom crosses, personal breeding projects or unlisted clone-only cuts:

1. Click Enter manually.
2. Enter the Strain name and Breeder. As you type the breeder, BudMinder suggests matching names; choose an existing breeder or continue typing to add a new one.
3. Select photoperiod or autoflower, and enter the expected flowering duration in weeks (for example, 8 to 9).
4. Select your destination category under Add it to, then click Add strain.

BudMinder opens the newly created profile. Click Edit on that page to fill in additional details.

Editing a strain

Click Edit on any strain profile to update its information:

• cultivar name, breeder, external links and descriptive notes;
• photoperiod type, indica/sativa ratio and flowering duration;
• THC and CBD ranges, aroma notes, dominant terpenes and therapeutic benefits;
• indoor and outdoor height and yield;
• parental lineage, selected from your library or entered manually;
• seed inventory: total count, seed type, acquisition date, storage location and Wanted status;
• seed pack or cultivar artwork.

Click Save Changes to apply your updates.
